Temporary plastic crowns: their role in treatment
A temporary crown is like a coat for your tooth while the permanent one is being made. It protects the tooth and lets you eat, talk and smile as normal.
Why you need one
A tooth prepared for a crown is sensitive and unprotected. A temporary crown covers it, protects the gum, and holds the space so your teeth don't drift.
What it is made of
Plastic. It can be made right in the chair in a few minutes, or milled by a machine, which makes it stronger and more precise. For implants, temporary crowns are made separately.
Living with it
A temporary crown is weaker than a permanent one. Avoid sticky and hard food on that side, and clean around it gently. If it comes off or breaks, see your dentist straight away.
